Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey
Five stars, without a doubt. I love Elizabeth is Missing! The protagonist, Maude, is an exceptional, jump-off-the-page kind of character. The author has met the challenge of writing this intriguing mystery from only one point of view - that of an elderly woman with dementia. The issue is handled with such realism and sensitivity that I couldn't help but fall in love with Maude, and her daughter too. The author gets the daughter's frustration over clearly from Maude's point of view, as well as the daily challenges Maude herself is facing.
The mystery is cleverly woven and it gripped me throughout. Maude is convinced that her friend Elizabeth is missing, and is constantly trying to solve the mystery when she can't remember what she already knows about it. The ending was surprising, tragic and satisfying all at once.
A fantastic read!
